He began playing fastpitch in 1971, and in 1973 began managing. In 1976, his team won the Men's Major Fastpitch State Championship. His Bypass Auto teams went on to win Kentucky State Fastpitch Championships in 1981, '83, '85, '87, '88, '89, '90, and '91.

Altogether his teams won nine Kentucky State Fast Pitch Championships, two at the Major level and seven at the 'A' level They were State Runners-Up twice-once in 1977 and once in 1986 His teams were also designated as the Kentucky Fast Pitch representative a number of times when there was no Kentucky State Tournament held.

In an outstanding performance, they won the 1994 Class 'A' Midwest Regional becoming the first Kentucky fastpitch team to have done so in 42 ears. His teams won some of the more significant invitational tournaments in the Midwest, some more than once.

He has stated that one of his greatest joys was watching so many of his former players grow as individuals and become part of his extended family.
