MICKEY PLAYED SOFTBALL FOR 31 YEARS, STARTING AT AGE 15. HE RETIRED IN 1980 AT THE AGE OF 47. HE PLAYED IN 10 KENTUCKY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS, WINNING THE TOURNAMENTS IN 1978. 1979 AND 1980.

HARMON STARTED PITCHING IN 1958, AND AN UMPIRE "BUNNY DAVIS" NICKNAMED HARMON THE "PERRYVILLE BULLET" BECAUSE HE FIRED THE SOFTBALL JUST LIKE A BULLET AND THE BALL SOUNDED LIKE BULLET COMING TO THE BAT. HE WAS ONE OF THE TOP PITCHERS IN THE STATE IN HIS PRIME. DURING HIS 32 YEAR CAREER, HE HAD 604 WINS, 160 LOSSES, AND 25 NO-HIT GAMES.

IN THE 1950'S AND 1960'S, HE PLAYED SOFTBALL 5 NIGHTS A WEEK AND PLAYED BASEBALL ON SUNDAY. HE HAD A RISE, DROP, CURVE FASTBALL, AND KNUCKLE BALL WHICH HE USED FOR A CHANGE UP. HE HAD GOOD CONTROL OF THE BALL AND DID NOT WALK MANY BATTERS.

HARMON HAS BEEN A POPULAR INDIVIDUAL IN BOYLE COUNTY. HE WAS ELECTED SHERIFF AND DEPUTY SHERIFF AND IS KNOWN IN CENTRAL KENTUCKY FOR HIS ATHLETIC ABILITY.
