Mike's career spanned 42 years (1938-1979) of active participation in fastpitch softball. He was considered one of the premier pitchers in the state of Kentucky.

Mike was a player and team manager in 1974-1975. From 1943-1945, he played with the U.S Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California, and on the island of Guam. He played for 15 different sponsors during his career, of which 10 years was with the Lexington Merchants, 1970-1979; 6 years with Parker & Wainscott, 1952-1957 and 4 years with Parkette Drive-In Restaurant, 1961-1969.

He played in many invitational tournaments, winning 55. He played in 19 District, 34 Kentucky State, and 22 Mid-West National Regional Tournaments. He was All-State Pitcher 7 times. Mike pitched a total of 1,625 games winning 1,247, .767 percent. He pitched 83 No-Hit games.
