Gene was known as a power hitter. He played for 15 years--1969-1983. His lifetime batting average was .530 and he hit over 1,000 home runs.

Gene played in: 6 ASA Men's Major state tournaments; 4 ASA Men's Major National Regionals; and 2 ASA Men's Major Nationals.

In 1974, 1976, 1977, and 1981, he was awarded each year a home run trophy for hitting the most home runs in tournament play. HIs longest home run was a 389 foot hit in 1979. In a Lexington, KY city tournament in 1979, Gene hit 5 consecutive home runs. He was honored in two tournaments by being selected MVP.

He played for Lexington Independents for two years, 1973-1974; Sportsworld, 1975; Hacienda, 1976; 4th Street Tobacco Warehouse, 1977; Grayson Construction, 1978; and Kentucky Sporting Goods, 1979-1981.
