THIS AWARD IS IN RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE GAME OF FASTPITCH SOFTBALL. FRANK WAS THE OWNER OF SOWER HARDWARE WHICH SPONSORED AND MANAGED MEN AND WOMEN'S SOFTBALL TEAMS DURING THE 1940S AND 1950'S. SOWER HARDWARE SPONSORED TEAMS WHO PARTICIPATED IN MANY CITY AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS.

SOWER HARDWARE GIRLS' TEAMS WERE KENTUCKY STATE RUNNER-UP IN 1949 AND WON THE CITY CHAMPIONSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES.

FRANK W. SOWER WAS THE LEADER IN ORGANIZING THE CAPITAL CITY SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION IN 1948. HE AND HIS FAMILY DEVOTED MANY FREE HOURS OF THEIR TIME TO PROMOTING THE GAME OF SOFTBALL. FRANK HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CIVIC LEADER AND WHEN HE WAS MAYOR OF FRANKFORT FROM 1968 TO 1972, HE DEVELOPED A CITY PARK WITH TWO (2) BALLPARKS AND A SWIMMING POOL.

FRANK HAS THE REPUTATION OF BEING THE NUMBER ONE SPORTSMAN IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AND PERHAPS IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY. SOFTBALL FANS WILL REMEMBER HIM FOR HIS DANCE AT THIRD BASE WHEN HIS TEAM SCORED.
