He began his ASA umpiring career in 1972, officiating in youth and
adult leagues in Berea and Richmond for the past 27 years.
He has umpired in district, regional, and state tournaments throughout the
state of Kentucky. Among those tournaments in which he has worked
and served as umpire-in-chief is the Thoroughbred Classic, the Louisville
Slugger Grand Slam, the Super Slam, the Lake Cumberland Classic, and the Daniel Boone Classic. He has umpired in 25 districts, 20 regional, and 100 state tournaments. He has also worked 10 national regionals, five
national qualifiers, and three national championship tournaments.
In 1999 he received one of the more prestigious awards given by ASA--
the National Indicator Fraternity Award. He has also been an outstanding
district commissioner for 20 years, increasing his district's number of teams and umpires each year. He has served on the Berea Parks & Recreation Board, the Ky ASA Executive Committee, and is a director of the Ky Softball Hall of Fame & Honor.
