JULIAN HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL SINCE 1960. HE WAS APPOINTED KENTUCKY ASA DISTRICT COMMISSIONER IN 1964 FOR THE COUNTIES OF MADISON, ROCKCASTLE, LINCOLN, AND GARRARD AND SERVED UNTIL THE END OF 1991-A TOTAL OF 28 YEARS. JULIAN WAS GIVEN A CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF WORK WITH THE YOUTH IN GARRARD COUNTY.

HE WAS ACTIVE IN CONVINCING THE JAYCEES THAT A BALL PARK WAS NEEDED FOR LANCASTER FOR THE USE OF THE YOUTH PROGRAM. THE PARK WAS CONSTRUCTED SO IT COULD BE USED FOR ADULT FAST PITCH AND SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL. JULIAN WAS CIVIC MINDED, AND DUE TO HIS DEDICATION TO RECREATION, HE WAS AWARDED THREE (3) STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS, NAMELY, MEN'S FAST PITCH IN 1964 AND SLOW PITCH IN 1965 AND 1971. HE WAS AN EXCELLENT TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER AND DIRECTOR. JULIAN WAS ALSO TOURNAMENT MANAGER FOR MANY STATE, DISTRICT, AND REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS.
