Spalding, Jude

Mooresville, Kentucky

Jude Spading was a member of many successful teams. Among them were Lebanon Sterling, Washington County Merchants and Reece Monument. Among the tournament teams for which he played, notable wins included the New Haven (7 times) and the Martin-Sterling Invitational (3 times).

In 1990, his Washington County Merchants team pulled one of the more memorable upsets in slow-pitch softball when they defeated the powerful Superior-Apollo team in the Smoky Mountain Classic.

Highlights in his career include: being named all-tournament in the L.I.T, Lake Cumberland Classic (1990-91-93 & '94), and 1993 'A' State. He was Player of the Year once and made All-American. Two of the coaches he played under were Jerrv Birch and Jackie Arnold whom he credits with making it possible for him and his teammates to be able to just show up and play the game.

We are proud and privileged to be able to induct Jude Spading into the Kentucky Softball Hall of Fame & Honor.
