KNOWN AS ‘’MR. SHORTSTOP’’ IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY, ALVIN ENJOYED ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CAREERS IN KENTUCKY SOFTBALL—EQUALLY EXCELLENT AT FAST PITCH OR SLOW PITCH. HE PLAYED SOFTBALL FOR 31 YEARS.

FROM 1941 TO 1949. HE PLAYED WITH THE NEWPORT SIXTH WARD BOOSTERS AND WAS 3 TIMES STATE RUNNER–UP, WINNING 4 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, 1 TIME NATIONAL REGIONAL RUNNER-UP, AND WON 1 NATIONAL REGIONAL.

IN 1950. ALVIN CAME IN 5TH IN THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT WHILE PLAYING WITH THE NEWPORT SIXTH WARD BOOSTERS. HE WON 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE PLAYING WITH THE NEWPORT RAMBLERS IN 1950. HIS CAREER FASTPITCH BATTING AVERAGE WAS .315.

ALVIN PLAYED WITH SHIELDS REALTY IN 1953 WINNING THE 1ST SLOW PITCH NATIONAL TOURNAMENT.

HE PLAYED AS A PITCHER WITH GATLIFF AUTO SALES IN 1956 AND 1957 WINNING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BOTH YEARS.

ALVIN PITCHED FOR YORKSHIRE IN 1959 AND AGAIN WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. HIS CAREER SLOW-PITCH BATTING AVERAGE WAS .480.

HONORED MVP IN SEVERAL TOURNAMENTS AND VOTED ON MANY ALL-STAR TEAMS. ALVIN WAS ALSO INDUCTED INTO THE NORTHERN KENTUCKY SPORTS HALL OF FAME IN 1984 AND INTO THE HUDEPOHL SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME IN 1988.
